On July 1, 2016 Governance Link Initiative will be launching the Corruption Free Zone Campaign, a month long anti-corruption campaign to call upon decision makers, leaders and the general public to take decisive action(s) on corruption.
This is an annual anti-corruption campaign aimed at helping to raise awareness on corruption and encouraging citizens to participate in curbing this problem that is taking away a huge chunk of our resources from productive causes.
The campaign will run the whole month of July. We have chosen the month of July, because it is the start of the new government financial year, so, as we start the new financial year we would like everyone ignited and take the mantle on themselves in the fight against corruption and to protect whatever resources we have, and ensure these resources are well used and/or managed.
The theme for this year is, “A corrupt free Malawi is possible. It starts with me”
We welcome contributions from the general public, media, businesses and non-profits towards this cause. We will be developing campaign stickers and posters and we are encouraging and calling upon all Malawians and stakeholders to put up these campaign stickers on their cars, mini-buses, office doors and posters in all places that posters would be ideal across the country. The goal is to initiate a conversation with your peers on this very important subject and start taking action.
We also plan to hold other activities including panel discussion, and a phone in radio program. We encourage organizations across the country to join us and hold their own small activities through out the month of July, raising awareness on corruption and encouraging the public to start taking action.
