The Business Committee of Malawi Parliament is one of the 16 parliamentary committees that were established to help facilitate different functions and/or responsibilities of the house.
The Business Committee was established by the Malawi Parliament Standing Orders (MPSO). It is responsible to oversee and facilitate the day to day business of the House under the leadership of the Speaker.
Each political party represented in House with a total number of its elected members not less than ten (10), is represented in the Business committee. The composition includes: – the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker(s), the Clerk of Parliament, the Leader of the House, Government Chief Whip, Leader of the Opposition and Opposition Party Whips.
Currently the business committee has twelve (12) members represented by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and Peoples Party (PP).
The United Democratic Front (UDF) which was initially represented in the committee had its membership forfeited after joining hands with DPP and moving to the government bloc in parliament.
